Gay

One of my favorite things to talk about is the word "gay". Although the word had been used in a few ways to refer to something from the homosexual community before the 1970's, it wasn't until a group of homosexuals decided that it was the right word because of all the happy connotations it brought with it and started to push it as THE term that it became popular. It completely overtook the other meaning of gay. Now, the new generation are changing the meaning again. When one of my students says, "That's so gay", they mean that it is stupid or has no merit.
