Get Nailed

Just outside Jonesborough on 11E is a great example of "telling language" which is also accompanied by a strong visual aid. Parked in front of the police station is a pickup truck with a huge nail (maybe 12-15 feet tall) driven down through the hood. On the side of the truck, a sign reads, "Drive drunk, get nailed." I find this to be fascinating wording--that get nailed means get caught, but the really interesting thing is how it represents our belief that if you do wrong, you get what you deserve. In reality, a very low percentage of people who drive drunk actually get caught. It, also, made me think about how our culture has changed so drastically in the past 30 to 40 years on the subject of DUI. We take it so much more seriously now than in the 70's and early 80's.
