More Kwinglish

"Rattle your dags, boys!" It means "Hurry up!" or "Get a move on!" Keep in mind, NZ is a country where they raise a lot of sheep. A dag is a bit of dried fecal matter that sticks to the wool at the back end of a sheep. (Etymology: Middle English, dagge, shred.)A sheep might have several dags, so when the sheep runs, the dags knock together and make a noise. This is used sometimes in normal conversation, but more often in an attempt to use a rural expression in jest. Still, it means, "Hurry up!. Also, I'm told, though I can't find it in my NZ dictionary, that farmers are called "cockeys." A farmer who raises sheep is a sheep cockey. One who raises cows is a cow cockey.
